Welcome to Tyee Mountain Trails

Check here for regular updates on the trail conditions.

Generally the tracks are set by thursday evenings, for the weekend. In the case of a big storm we will wait until the weather clears before resetting.

We are looking for volunteers to help out with tracksetting this year; if you are keen, give us a call at 250-877-3495.

Trail Condition Updates 2011

March 29, 2012 - trails closed for the season. Thank you for your support and see you next year!

Feb. 18th - Some trails groomed this a.m. - Sawmill Trail, Beaver Swamp, Lake Loop; other trails is good condition with the colder weather this weekend - some snow on top of old grooming but still good skiing. Road to upper parking on Hislop side has not been plowed, a few centimeters on top but has been driven and is okay for 4X4 access. Also note: the trap that was on Sawmill trail is no longer set. We suspect that the trapper is finished in this area for the season and will confirm this in the next day or two - for more info call the number provided below.

Jan 27th - All trails have been groomed or packed.

Jan. 22 - Some trail grooming done: Little Onion trail, Lake Trail, Sawmill and Beaver Swamp, and the road to upper parking on the Hislop side has been plowed. As of Tuesday (Jan. 24) some new snow has fallen and strong winds have blown over some trails. We will groom again before the weekend, as long as it doesn't rain up here!

Jan 15th - Some trails have been groomed. Road to upper parking lot is plowed.

Jan. 13 - Some new snow falling tonight, making things pretty nice out there. We have confirmed that there is a snare set on Sawmill Trail, about 200 m in from the main access road (western side of Sawmill Trail), so keep dogs leashed for this section of the trail or keep them close! We will let you know when the traps have been removed. (Please see note about Trapline below).

Jan. 10 - The colder temperatures are improving trail conditions. We haven't yet set track again; there is a little fresh snow on top of the old tracks and we will probably get out before next weekend to clean up a little. The road to upper parking on the Hislop side has been plowed and is now safer to drive, although there is a little icy section still near the bottom so use with care.

Jan. 5 - Recent warm weather and rain have created treacherous conditions on lower parts of the network - the access from Hislop is icy and upper parking on this side is not recommended at this time. We will update this when things improve. Even on upper parts of the network there was rain, and so conditions are quite icy everywhere. Take care out there and travel carefully!

December 30 - All trails groomed or packed except for Route 66, and road to upper parking plowed on the Hislop side. Happy New Year!

December 26-27 - All trails groomed or packed except for the Little Onion Trail which is better with some snow on top. As of Wednesday morning (the 28th) there is some new snow on top of groomed trails, and the road to upper parking on the Hislop side is not yet plowed.

Note: we do not set track on Hale Bop or Baboon Blvd - these are narrow forested trails and do not permit the machine to go through. Skiable when conditions are good, but they haven't been checked this year and may be impassable due to the heavy snows.

Also Note: the Trapline Trails are part of an active trapline. Traps have been set as of Tuesday (the 27th) so skiers with dogs please avoid these trails or leash your dogs when on them. There are only a few traps and most are not dangerous to dogs but precautions are necessary! There may also be a trap set on the westernmost portion of Sawmill Trail, just before Trapline West branches off, so same precautions should be used here.

Dec. 17/18: Trail grooming done, and road to upper parking on Hislop side now plowed. Trapline Trail West is quite brushy at the moment as all of the heavy snows have made a mess, so use with care. All other groomed trails are in good condition.

Dec. 14th: Trails groomed: Clearcut Loop/Ali-Oop, Sawmill Trail/Beaver Swamp Trail, Mcdowell Lake Loop, Little Onion Trail. Little bit of fresh snow on top of groomed tracks as of Thursday morning (Dec. 16). Road to upper parking on the Hislop side is plowed.

Dec 8th: All trails have been groomed.

Dec 1st: Dec. 1 - Sawmill/Beaver Swamp/Mcdowell Lake Loop packed; Little Onion packed; Trapline Trail West/Route 66 packed; Clearcut Loop/Ali-Oop groomed. (Packed meaning driven over with the snowmobile, groomed is a wider packed surface). The access road to upper parking is plowed and first parking lot open (approx. 1.5 km in, on the left). At this time the maps are not yet up - there are only a couple old ones left up. We are working on the revisions and hope to have them up within the next week or so. It is recommended to print out a copy of the map which is available on this website and bring it with you; most of the changes are in the area of Trapline Trail East which is closed at the moment.

**Trapline Trail East is now open - the logging activity in that area is now finished.

NOTE: Little Onion Trail is a more difficult access trail so use with care, there are a few steep sections. The conditions are good for snow at this time - it is best with some loose snow on top, however there are some spots where brush is still coming through on the trail. This trail is great for snowshoeing too!
